62 Years Old - lifts in basement - 17% BF
By: Michael Beiter
My clients are inspiring.
One of my favorites is a 62-year-old woman who workouts out in her basement.
I get excited to talk to her every time she comes in because I want to learn from her. We have a shitty relationship with aging in the West - we try to avoid it. I choose to think of age like those in the East: with respect and reverence.
So my client is butting up against retirement and she said:
"You know, it's magic how many things fall away from your concerns at this time in life. What you're left with are the bare essentials, and they don't cost much. I LOVE a cup of coffee every morning and going down to my gym for a weight-lifting workout. Lifting has taken the place of running for me honestly and I don't mind one bit."
She shouldn't mind, she has lost 7 pounds of and gained a few pounds of muscle in the last year. Her shoulders and arms are capped with muscles and her thighs are more muscular than when she ran constantly.
I tell her that I compare her to other 60 somethings I know and the differences are stark. She is in the top 1% of women her age body composition-wise.
I want to be like her, and urge anyone else to live similarly.
Here is a photo of her basement area where she tracks her calories, macros, and workouts on a whiteboard.
