A Fitness and Nutrition Year In Review
By: Michael Beiter
I love a good year in review.
Spotify told me all about my listening habits this year. My number one genre is rap, followed by country and then non-lyrical instrumentals.
Steam told me all about my gaming hours. I played 14 new games this year and spent nearly 45% of my gaming time on Call of Duty.
I do a similar exercise with my clients. We look through multiple apps to collect the averages for:
- HRV
- Sleep scores and duration
- Food logs
- Stress
- Body weight
- Steps
- Workouts (mins)
- RHR
A 59-year-old woman just left my office, and her numbers from 2023 were the following:
Sleep: Average high score: 91, low 53, 8 hours 53 minutes daily
Food logs: 355
Stress: 30/100
BW: 154
Steps: 6895
Workouts: 129 minutes per week moderate, 53 vigorous
RHR: 44
Once we have the data, we decide whether to do less, the same, or more in 2024.
In the example provided, she doesn't need to increase anything next year; her goal is to maintain. She is just trying to run it back. We set goals and expectations and finish with the best part: gratitude.
When you have millions of steps in a year, hundreds of hours of exercise time, food logs a plenty, and a third of your time spent asleep, you should be grateful. That is health.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, 'Give me health and a day, and I will make the pomp of emperors ridiculous.'
