A ten-year client, three-year client, and three-month client check-in

By: Michael Beiter

Have you ever experienced the feeling of pride and joy when you see someone you have trained achieve their goals? Well, that's how I feel today. One of my clients sent me a video of his son deadlifting 510 pounds five times. And get this; he is going to play college baseball!

Ten years ago, his dad and I used to meet thrice weekly for personal training sessions. His youngest son would sometimes tag along and copy the moves his dad was doing. And now, he's stronger than his dad and his trainer ever were! Our constant reminders to 'put that down, stay off that equipment, and pay attention' worked. We did well.

But that's not all. One of my clients of nearly three years left my coaching, and his wife commented on how he improved while working with me. She said: "You're more easygoing about your body image and in general. You've relaxed when it comes to your nutrition and working out." Plus, she liked how his butt grew and his muscles blew up.

But what he said next was the most significant improvement he learned from me, which would be hard to market. "I was depressed for six years. I learned some mental models that didn't serve me well, and didn't recognize the costs stacking up. You helped me gain perspective and improve my thinking to enjoy myself more often," he said.

And there's more. A new client walked out after his third month of work, and he's getting comments from his wife and colleagues that he's looking great. Fat falls off his frame weekly, but the real boon comes from his heart. The number of times it beats per minute has dropped by thirteen.

Put another way, after eight weeks of work; his heart beats 18,720 fewer times daily. That's 130 thousand beats per week (over one day's worth), over half a million monthly, and six million yearly. Our hearts only have so many beats when speaking of longevity, so lowering your RHR is paramount to any longevity plan.

It is days like these when my why becomes crystallized, transforming lives. You never know how much of an impact you can make on someone's life until you start working with them. Seeing them grow and achieve their goals is priceless.
