Case Study: Scott, 34, Lost 30 pounds in 5 Months

One of my favorite things at work is helping people I grew up with.

Scott came to me in June and wanted help shedding some weight he gained during Covid.

Since then, he has lost thirty pounds, six inches from his waist, logged 131 workouts, and eaten with a deficit goal of 2100 calories, 177 protein, 195 carbs, and 71 fat.

Scott sends me updates on his aesthetic improvements, which are striking, along with some fun facts.

In July, he said:

“I am so glad I am doing this the right way. I learned how to make healthy tacos after changing my diet and lifestyle. I learned I would rather have good food over pizza. Down officially 13.5 pounds from where I started and was stuck for a couple of weeks at 233 and 231.”

In August, he said:

“OMG, I see the work! (with pictures attached). One meal at the fair is equal to a whole day of calories! I usually go at least once and know from experience I don’t stop at just one serving.”

Around this time, he got a FitBit and ran into his first big hurdle when his family visited, and he resumed his old eating and lethargy.

Scott said: “I need this. I have been struggling, but I am getting back on the wagon. I fell off when my sister came, but I feel much better getting back into things.

I am focused on my goal; stress kills me. I’ve only had a 1.5 lb loss this month. I’ve struggled the most with the amount of food. I need to stick to weighing things.”

Rounding out the month, he noted, “I am feeling change and growth still. 33 years old and doing more bicep curls than I did when I was 23.”

In September, Scott reached 220 for the first time since pre-Covid, ten pounds away from a goal weight for a wedding. “After seeing someone I know having health problems because of poor eating and missing work, I am glad I made the change before it got out of control.”

Scott has continued progressing and is looking to cross into bodyweight ranges he hasn’t seen since high school or younger. “This morning's conversation, how do you lose so much weight without going to the gym? ME: weight and measure your food. That is the best start.” Scott said.

He wrapped up October and November and crossed the thirty pounds lost mark while commenting about clothes he was trying on: “ I tried on some old pants that were too big. These were bought two years ago, and I can fit back into them!”

Scott rocks, doing his best to learn about macros and fitness in ways he never has before. Thirty pounds down, another couple dozen to go, then we get to work on stabilizing his body weight and eating more.
