Man wants to lose 125 lbs

Inquiry

By: Michael Beiter

I met with this fella this morning, and we had a good conversation.

He was quizzing me to see if I would be a good fit to help him with his hundred pounds plus weight loss goal.

He has lost fifty pounds multiple times before only to gain it back.

I asked him what his methodology was: low-carb. Then I asked him if he realized how he lost weight was unsustainable, proven because he couldn't keep it off. He agreed.

Serious as a heart attack, he asked, "Can I sustainably lose weight and keep it off if I always eat out."

I pondered and responded forcefully, "No."

He went on to tell me that he decided to work with me because of how I explained why:

"When you delegate your food prep to someone else, you lose all of your controls. You also assume that those preparing your food for you have your best interests in mind, but they don't. They are interested in creating a unique experience with the lighting in their restaurant, the music they play, and where they set the thermostat.

When they serve you, they don't serve you a portion size that's appropriate for your health; those went bye-bye about fifty years ago. They serve you a horror that is typically enough for at least two, if not three, people. They add extra salt, sugar, and fat to their dishes to create a particular taste that is addictive. They want your belly to be full and you to be intoxicated and slightly elated from the hormones their food triggers.

All to get you to become a repeat customer. They want your money. They couldn't care less about your health. It's even better for them to create an addicted consumer, just like the social media, tobacco, and alcohol industries.

It's well known those bastards have manipulated our biology and minds. It's not well known the same has been happening in the restaurant and food industries for decades.

What's the difference? Everybody needs food; nobody needs social media, tobacco, or alcohol."

"Nobody has ever explained it like that to me before," he said.

We start chipping away at his 125 pounds on Thursday.
