Only One Option

By: Michael Beiter

Tony Robbins used to say, 'Burn the boats,' so you don't have a way back.

One of my coworker colleagues taught me commitment by demonstrating that he would sleep in his car or gym if he had to.

My instructor, who helped design my business, advised that I play the long game with 'pigheaded' discipline.

They all have a similar idea: make success your only option.

When I started my business, I jumped in all the way. I didn't maintain a comfortable salaried position or any side hustles. This was IMPERATIVE in my development.

I had no boat to jump back into; I committed to doing anything to make it work, and I've been pigheaded since the founding.

The result? Everything worked as I had planned. My days look precisely how I drew them up when I completed the 'Make your dream day' exercise in the fall of 2016.

Now I get some questions on how to do the small business thing, and my first point echoes those who helped me: quitting is not an option; pick one thing and send it.

It works with my clients too.

If you always have a comfortable second option, you will return to it when your first choice gets tough. A closet full of big clothes? Is the fridge full of beers? Is your couch more appealing than your cardio? You can eliminate that second option and watch yourself grow like you wouldn't believe.
