Spring Forward Reminder

By: Michael Beiter

"We are not sleeping the way nature intended. The number of sleep bouts, the duration of sleep, and when sleep occurs have all been comprehensively distorted by modernity." Matthew Walker says.

"The switch to daylight savings time results in most of us losing an hour of sleep opportunity.

If you were to tabulate millions of daily hospital records, you would discover that this seemingly trivial hour carries with it a massive spike in heart attacks."

That is happening right now, as you read this, and throughout this day, the twelfth of March, 2023

It works both ways. In the fall, when we gain an hour, heart attack rates plummet the day after.

Similarly, traffic accidents will be up all day. This proves the brain is equally affected as the heart by a single hour of sleep loss.

Walker, author of 'Why We Sleep' concludes, "We all shrug off sleep loss as inconsequential. It is everything but."

TLDR: Take a nap today
